Our Approach to Video Content: Quality Education Through Skilled Facilitation
At Plumtree Baby, we are committed to creating practical, evidence-based resources that genuinely support new parents and the perinatal professionals who serve them. We believe the best learning happens through a thoughtful balance of high-quality materials and meaningful human connection.
Our Philosophy on Video Use
We intentionally take a measured approach to video content. While we recognize the value of short, well-produced videos for demonstrating specific skills, we have chosen not to build large video libraries like some of our competitors.
We believe that live interaction and facilitation by a skilled educator delivers better learning outcomes than a heavy reliance on videos.
Today’s parents can easily access video content on their own from many sources. In addition, we’ve observed that excessive video content can sometimes feel impersonal, overwhelming, or even triggering for new and expecting parents — especially when covering sensitive topics around birth, complications, or emotional challenges. Passive video viewing also tends to be less engaging than interactive learning.

This philosophy is grounded in adult learning principles:
-
Real-time support is powerful: A knowledgeable facilitator can answer questions immediately, adapt to the group’s needs, read emotional cues, and offer personalized encouragement.
-
Active learning drives retention: Parents learn and retain more when they can practice skills with guidance, discuss real challenges, ask follow-up questions, and learn from others in an interactive setting.
-
Reducing overwhelm: Expectant parents are often anxious and overwhelmed. Too many videos can feel burdensome, whereas a balanced mix of written guides, illustrations, and limited strategic videos is far more practical.
-
Honoring educator expertise: Our materials are designed to enhance, not replace, the valuable work of perinatal professionals.

Our Current Video Content
Consistent with this philosophy, we keep video use limited and purposeful. We currently offer the following resources with video components:
-
Settling In with Baby – Our comprehensive flagship resource for the fourth trimester, which includes four targeted videos: Welcome, Getting to Know Your Newborn, Soothing Your Baby and Getting Started with Breastfeeding.
-
Newborn Care PowerPoint – Which includes two videos: Getting to Know Your Newborn and Soothing Your Baby .
-
Breastfeeding Your Baby PowerPoint – Which includes one video: Getting Started with Breastfeeding.
These videos are short and focused on hands-on techniques that benefit most from visual demonstration. The majority of the learning experience comes through class discussion and practice, detailed parent guidebooks, comprehensive slides and educator guidance.
See It In Action
Here’s an example of one of our short, focused videos from Settling In with Baby — Getting to Know Your Newborn. We use videos like this sparingly and only for skills that are best demonstrated visually.
The Best of Both Worlds
This balanced approach allows us to provide the clarity of strategic video demonstrations where they add real value, combined with rich, accessible written and visual content that families can reference anytime — with or without screens.
The result is resources that are more educator-friendly, family-accessible, and effective at building real-world confidence and competence during this important life-phase.
Supporting Your Work with Families
